Since updated to macOS High Sierra, lots of FCP X users have serious troubles dealing with MXF files from Canon PowerShot G3 X and other camcorders. Is there any possibilities to solve these problems? In this article, we explain a workaround to transcode Canon PowerShot G3 X MXF footage for easier use in Apple's Final Cut Pro X.
"Hi guys, I've been struggling with one problem none has been able to fix so far. I'm editing some MXF files coming from a Canon PowerShot G3 X through FCP X. For some reason the Canon PowerShot G3 X .mxf files are imported without any audio. I have processed a lot of Canon PowerShot G3 X MXF videos in the past without any issues at all and I'm following exactly the same procedure - the only change is that I have updated my OS to High Sierra. This is really strange and I'm wondering if it's related to some update in FCP X and if anyone else has experienced a similar issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!"
This is a known issue between FCP X and macOS High Sierra. One solution is transcoding Canon PowerShot G3 X MXF media to ProRes codec first, then import into FCP X. Check a guide on how to process Canon PowerShot G3 X MXF to ProRes conversion for FCP X editing.

Step 2: Click "Profile" to select AVI as output format for use in Pinnacle Studio. For a good editing performance, We would recommend choosing "HD Video" > "HD AVI Video(*.avi)" as target format.

If your computer is powerful enough to handle 4K files, you can choose "4K Video" > "4K AVI Video (*.avi)" as target format for Pinnacle Studio.

Tips: If necessary, you can click "Settings" button to modify video and audio parameters like encoder, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, aspect ratio, sample rate, and audio channels. You can also "Enable 3D Settings" to add 3D effect to your source media.

Step 3: Start file conversion for Pinnacle Studio. Click "Convert" to start Canon PowerShot G3 X MXF to Pinnacle Studio conversion. As soon as the conversion is complete, click "Open Folder" to get the generated AVI files for editing in Pinnacle Studio with optimum performance. Hope it helps.
